The CSTA Director positions listed below will be vacated July 11, 2019. We encourage interested CSTA members to self-nominate or to encourage other qualified members to submit an application.
Candidates for board positions should have a strong record of contributions to K-12 computer science education and have served in leadership roles in education or nonprofit communities.
Directors are required to attend two in-person Board meetings per year (including the combined Board Meeting and CSTA Conference in July each year; travel expenses are paid), as well as periodic videoconferences. The CSTA Board of Directors provides oversight of CSTA to ensure its long-term health, including the organization’s planning, policies, and finances. The CSTA Board is a working board, and Directors and are expected to contribute meaningfully by participating on committees. This is a volunteer position. More details on board responsibilities are provided below.
CSTA is dedicated to promoting diversity in K-12 computer science education as well as on its Board. We strongly encourage all qualified individuals to apply.
Board Representative Vacancies:
K-8 Representative: A classroom teacher who is currently teaching or promoting computer science at the pre-high school level.
9-12 Representative: A classroom teacher who is currently teaching computer science at the high school level.
School District Representative: An administrator whose focus is technology or curriculum across multiple schools.
At-Large Representative: An educator with responsibilities for K-12 CS education.
The Nominations and Elections Committee of the CSTA Board will select the two best-qualified applicants in each position for inclusion on the ballot. The Committee will consider the following factors: prior experience with regard to board position; professional reputation; overall educational and nonprofit experience; leadership skills and experience; prior contributions to CSTA; alignment of prior work to CSTA mission; and understanding of core issues in CS education. You must be a member of CSTA in good standing.
Board Representative Responsibilities:
- Attends regularly scheduled board meetings, including in-person and virtual, and reviews documents in preparation for meetings
- Reviews and approves the organization’s annual budget Recommends and sets policy for the organization
- Provides strategic leadership and planning
- Supports the organization’s mission and purpose
- Serves on committees as needed

- Your Name
- School or Employer
- Current Title/Role
- Email Address
- Phone Number
- Position for which you are applying
- Personal Statement that explains your motivation and why you are a strong candidate (no more than 1000 characters, about 150-180 words)
- Answers to the following four questions (no more than 700 characters each):
- What experiences and/or interests in K-12 computer science/information technology education qualify you to serve as a leader for the organization?
- What previous experience do you have with CSTA?
- What leadership skills do you have that would enrich the Board and the organization?
- What do you think are the most important issues for K-12 computer science education?
- Resume/CV (in PDF format)
Each candidate's personal statement and answers to the four questions will be posted on the CSTA website and included on the ballot. Statements will be truncated at the character limit if necessary. The candidate's résumé will not be made public.
Nomination deadline: Jan. 31, 2019 (11:59 p.m. PST). Late nominations will not be accepted.
Ballot distribution: The election will take place online, beginning Feb. 21, 2019. All CSTA members in good standing will be eligible to vote.
Voting deadline: The election will close March 21, 2019.
Election results: Results will be posted by April 1, 2019.
